Face Lift in Houston: Basic Info

A face lift, technically known as Rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic procedure usually done to improve the facial features of a person. Neck lifts are usually done as well when a person undergoes face list. If you are living in Houston and you want to undergo this procedure, you should first fully understand what this operation is and the possible risks you will face before deciding to undergo it.

Face lift procedures involve lifting of the soft facial tissues and removal of excess skin so the face will look younger. Most people undergo face lift because of aging where skin in the face starts to droop and sag resulting to an older face.

Although this procedure will stretch your skin, the quality of your skin is not improved or changed. Wrinkles and other signs of aging will not be solved by a face lift in Houston. That is why this operation is usually done together with other cosmetic procedures to improve the whole feature of the face like eyelid surgery, and skin resurfacing.

Skin aging especially in the face is definitely everyone’s nightmare. A face lift will be a good option but before undergoing this procedure, you should first analyze whether the procedure is the right option for you. Consider a face lift procedure if you are experiencing these problems:

When To Undergo Face Lift?

  • Loose facial skin
  • Skin in the cheeks is sagging
  • An excess skin is hanging below the jaw line
  • If you have deep creases on your chin, your lower lip, or on your lower eyelids
  • If you have excess fats on your neck
  • Platysmal bands or more commonly termed as vertical bands are already visible on your neck

Some of the possible risks of face lift are scarring, bruising, swelling, skin loss, hair loss, and facial nerve injury.  Of course, just like any major surgeries, a minimally invasive procedure like face lift may also entail risks if not done properly. That is why it is important to a reliable cosmetic expert in order to ensure that you are undergoing a safe and correct procedure for your skin and face.

A face lift might also not be allowed by health experts for specific medical reasons depending on the person’s health condition. Some cosmetic procedures are usually not recommended if a person has a severe or risky medical condition, is taking blood thinners, and smoking since smoking can cause skin loss if the person undergoes a face lift.

Rhinoplasty in Houston

The medical term is rhinoplasty and it's commonly known as a nose job. This is a very frequent form of plastic surgery and is performed on an almost routine basis everywhere. Some people are little bit nervous about the procedure but there really is nothing to be scared about. As a matter fact, rhinoplasty in Houston follows the same methods that are used in New York City.

There's nothing to be ashamed about. Mother Nature sometimes is a little bit harsh, giving a person a nose that perhaps just a little bit too large or somehow looks a little bit out of the ordinary. A little bit of medical attention can correct what has become an embarrassing problem. As matter fact, there doesn't even need to be a surgical incision. Collagen fillers can be injected into nasal tissue to fill in depressed areas and smooth out the bumps. This is just one of the forms of rhinoplasty. In Houston, there are a number of plastic surgeons that can perform such a procedure easily.

What is ultimately done depends on what the patient needs and wants. Nasal tissue can be rearranged to create an entirely new appearance for person's nose, thus making it more attractive by perhaps eliminating birth defects or the consequences of a physical injury. The important thing to keep in mind is that the patient determines what is ultimately done. A plastic surgeon will advise on what the best methods are, but rhinoplasty in Houston is very much patient sensitive. Nothing is done without full consent.

The end result can be a life changer. Anyone who has been made to feel self-conscious about his or her nose experiences heightened self-esteem once the rhinoplasty procedure has been completed. The whole new and highly positive outlook on life is quickly generated. Folks may worry about the cost of this form of cosmetic surgery, but there really is no need. Depending on the circumstances, a person's medical insurance may cover any or all procedures of rhinoplasty. In Houston, quite a few medical insurance companies don't see any problem in covering a procedure that will improve not only of person's appearance, but perhaps even their ability to breathe. It just depends on the circumstances.

Rhinoplasty in the Houston area is performed by skilled professionals with considerable experience in plastic surgery. A prospective patient ought to shop around a little bit and be sure to check. That being said, rhinoplasty is a medical procedure that is easy to get and is not really too expensive at all.

Various Types of Plastic Surgery

Please don't ever think that plastic surgery is used just to carve a pretty smile and nothing more. It simply isn't true. Yes, this procedure can be used to make a person look pretty but it often helps to allow people live more normal lives. It isn't just a fountain of youth for the rich. This medical treatment has been around for thousands of years and we know that it was practiced in India around 800 BC. There are basically two forms: reconstructive and cosmetic.

When it comes to reconstructive, think of people with severe burns or who have suffered highly damaging injury. The intent is to help improve function that has been disrupted, and also to try and restore normal appearance. Some typical reconstructive surgery includes breast reconstruction and contracture surgery, the latter being used on burn victims. Eliminating the problem of a cleft palate also falls under the reconstructive category.

Cosmetic surgery provides the image excessive stereotype often given to the overall medical treatment. This particular branch has quite a few operations that can be performed. While enhancing appearance is a benefit, this surgical operation also seeks to maintain or restore normal appearance. Liposuction, the removal of excess fat, can help a person with glandular problems get rid of excess weight that cannot be reduced through changes in eating habits. Other forms of cosmetic surgery can help remove negative self-image brought on by features which a person has had since birth.

The point of this discussion is to try to make people understand that this area of medical treatment is more than just getting a nose job or having a butt tightened. It is definitely a godsend for anybody who has experienced the trauma of third degree burns, or whose normal appearance was shattered by a major accident. For better or for worse, our society is very much an appearance oriented community. People often take the cosmetic surgery route because their self-esteem has been battered by years of taunts and cat-calls. A cosmetic procedure may remove a physical stigma and really allow them to lead a more normal life. When a person looks at the overall picture of this area of medicine objectively, they will come to realize plastic surgery really is a whole lot more than just a tummy tuck or a facelift.

Plastic Surgery Procedures that Make You Look Younger

Although it is arguable that pretty much all plastic surgery procedures make you look younger, there are some more sought after for this reason than others. Here's a list and a brief description of each procedure I think of when I am thinking of ways to look younger.

Botox
This cosmetic procedure is an injection that smooths over frown lines and other wrinkcles for a few months to a year. Some women also get botox in order to achieve fuller lips. The substance used was originally used to treat muscle spasms, but cosmetic surgeons soon realized that the injection helped men and women look much younger.

Facelift
The ultimate anti-aging procedure known as the facelift literally lifts skin and tissue on the face in order to take several years off one's appearance. This is surgery so it's much more involved than botox injections, but it lasts longer too. There's some recovery time after surgery, but many people find the results are totally worth it. This procedure can get rid of most signs of aging from the neck up.

Eyelid Surgery
Several women find that over the years their eyes start to droop and make them look tired and/or older. Eyelid surgery is one way to take years off of one's appearance and get rid of the "crows feet" so many women hate.

Forehead Lift
One area that tends to get lots of wrinkles as we age is the forehead. Although you can try to avoid certain facial expressions, etc., most likely the wrinkles will still find you. This procedure lifts skin in the area, getting rid of the vast majority of those wrinkles, if not all of them.

Breast Lift
After having kids or just aging in general, women's breasts tend to drop lower. This can make many females feel older and makes their bodies look older than they are sometimes. A breast lift literally picks the breasts up and lifts them to where they used to be. This makes several of the women who have had the surgery feel much more confident as well as younger.

Vein Treatment
The last cosmetic surgery procedure I'll mention is vein treatment. Most of the time, your veins don't start showing until later in life, if at all. This may be why so many people feel old when they have this condition. Wearing hose all of the time is a nusance and hot in the Houston area. This procedure makes a night and day difference in the appearance of one's legs who has vericose veins. Most are very happy they decided to go through with getting treatment.

Of course there are other plastic surgery procedures that turn back the clock. These were just a few of the most popular. Give Dr. Wuest's office a call at 936-441-8855 to schedule a consultation to look your best at any age.

Breast Implant Risks

Many women have gone back and forth when it comes to the decision about whether or not to get breast implants because of possible risks involved. Many times the media pushes horror stories that make it seem like the risks associated with this surgical procedure are high in nature. Please read through the facts and see what the true risks are and their likelihood below.

Mamography Interference

Although breast augmentation does interfere with being able to "see" all of your tissue, it does not effect your ability to discover lumps in a self examination. This is a common misconception that many have. The after-effects of the surgery also do not interfere with ultrasounds or MRI scans.

Capsular Contracture

This refers to a scar left after getting the procedure done. It can make the breast feel too firm, look unnatural and possibly cause minor pain. Capsular contracture is less common in saline implants than in silicone. Placing the implant under the muscle minimizes this risk by a large amount.

Implant Displacement

Fortunately, the "moving around" of breast implants is not a common problem. For those that do have this problem, further surgery can correct it quite easily. The larger the implant, the more likely it is to move downward over time.

Salene Implant Deflation

The risk of deflation in the first year following the procedure is 4% and 1% thereafter. As you can see, it isn't a large risk. What causes deflation is usually when the salene implants have not been over filled. Movement over a large amount of time (several years) can cause folds and lead to leaks. This accounts for the 1% risk in year 2 and beyond.

Silicone Implant Rupture

This became a problem in the 1980's and is a big reason why salene became a popular choice. The silicone gel isn't absorbed easily by the body and there is a risk of women not knowing they've had a rupture for quite some time. Ruptures lead to painful capsular contractures. How common is this problem? The risk is 4% for the first 4 years after surgery. Not many studies have been done to determine risk after that timeframe.

Rippling

Rippling is when there's a visible appearance of waviness of the skin over your implants. This is very uncommon in silicone. It is seen most often when salene implants are not over filled. It is also less likely to occur with smooth implants than with textured ones.

Infection

Last but not least, there's the risk of infection. There is about a 1% risk of infection in all breast augmentation procedures. If it does occur, it will most likely happen in the first 2 months and is fixable with antibiotics and the removal of the affected implant. The waiting time to replace the implant is about 6 months.

Although there are risks associated with breast augmentation, they are not high in nature with each being under 5%. It is most important to pick a good qualified cosmetic surgeon to do your breast implants in The Woodlands or any other area in which you live. Check their credentials as well as for complaints.

Breast Implants In The Woodlands

If considering breast implants in The Woodlands, the answers to some common questions and concerns you may have may be found here.

Many women are not sure what to ask in the first consultation. Let's address that first. Don't be shy about asking your plastic surgeon questions about their experience. Questions about why they became a plastic surgeon, associations they belong to, how long they've been in practice, how many of your types of surgeries they've performed, how many they've repaired, what is the failure rate, what type of surgery would they recommend in your situation, are all valid and valuable questions and concerns. Also be sure and discuss with your doctor whether you smoke, or take any prescription medications. It's usually recommended that you have a general health checkup prior to breast implant surgery.

The types of breast implants in The Woodlands are similar to those that are commonly surgically available anywhere in the country. Basically there are two main types at the moment that are very popular. Which type you choose depends on several variables.

Women choose breast augmentation, also known as mammaplasty, and breast implants, for a number of reasons. Sometimes it's a career choice, a reconstruction issue after mastectomy, or an appearance issue that's just unsightly to us personally. Mammaplasty, also spelled mammoplasty, also refers to cheek implants but is being used more and more to refer to breast augmentation or reduction.

Breast implants as a career choice is absolutely necessary for some women who wish to model in this career or choose a profession where outstanding breasts are a desirable feature. Saline breast implants may be the best choice here, but of course talk to your doctor. The reason this is mentioned is because of new technology, saline implants can be implanted with a very small incision at a different sight other than the breast area, and then inflated with the solution through a tube. Women who want reconstruction will also be candidates for saline implants because of the time consuming attention needed to allow the body to adjust to slowly adding more solution, depending on your situation.

When considering breast implants in the Woodlands, talk with your surgeon about the different placement possibilities of the implants, feel and textures. There is much more...but that's what your consultation is for, make a list before attending this appointment. You should have lots of questions.
