Breast
Augmentation
Breast augmentation, technically known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman's breast. Since the advent of breast augmentation in the 1960s, it has become the most frequently performed cosmetic plastic surgery in the U.S. Millions of women have improved their appearance through silicone or saline breast implants. Breast augmentation can give women with small or unevenly sized breasts a fuller, firmer, better-proportioned look through the placement of these implants in the breast. The results have a natural look and feel.
You may elect to undergo breast augmentation for many different medical and aesthetic reasons, but you should discuss the pros and cons with Dr. Wuest before surgery. The best candidate for breast augmentation is the woman who is seeking to improve not perfect her appearance. The procedure may be combined with others such as a breast lift for more satisfying results.
Implants are placed behind each breast, underneath either breast tissue or the chest wall muscle. The procedure lasts one to two hours and is typically performed with general anesthesia, although local anesthesia combined with a sedative is also possible.
Breast Lift
Over the years, factors such as pregnancy, nursing, and the force of gravity take their toll on a woman's breasts. As the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts often lose their shape and firmness and begin to sag. In many cases with mild sagging, the simple insertion of a breast implant can camouflage sagging by adding roundness and fullness to the upper breast. However, when the nipple hangs below the fold beneath the breast, or points downward, a breast lift is necessary.
Breast lift, mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts--at least, for a time. (No surgery can permanently delay the effects of gravity.) Mastopexy can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. If your breasts are small or have lost volume--for example, after pregnancy, breast implants inserted in conjunction with mastopexy can increase both their firmness and their size.
The best candidates for the procedure are women with very small, sagging breasts who are realistic about what the surgery will accomplish. Breast lift surgery may be performed on women with larger breasts, but the effects may not last as long. Breast lift surgery may be performed on women of any age, but most plastic surgeons advise women to wait until after they have had children since additional pregnancies will usually stretch the skin again and reverse the effects of the procedure. more…….
New Derma Fillers
We now have three of the newest natural derma fillers currently
available in our office. We continue to offer Botox® and Restylane®. (see
description below) A dermal filler is a substance
which is injected into the skin to plump it up, make it
firmer and smooth out lines and wrinkles.
Juvéderm Plus™
is the only hyaluronic filler FDA-approved to last up to one year. This
product comes from the creators of Botox Cosmetic.
ArteFill®, the first and only FDA-approved non-resorbable
injectable wrinkle filler for the correction of facial wrinkles known as
smile lines.
Perlane® - adds volume and restores youthful contours. From the
creators of Restylane.
Fraxel® Laser
Fraxel® Laser Treatment is designed to target aging and
damaged skin by creating microscopic "wounds" within the targeted areas
that penetrate well beneath the skin's outermost layer. In this way,
Fraxel® Laser treatments trigger the body's own natural production of
new collagen and skin cells. And because Fraxel® Laser Treatment
combines the impact of ablative lasers with the gentleness of
non-ablative lasers, healing occurs so quickly that there is very little
downtime for patients. We offer this procedure with sedation at the
patient's request.
Facelift
Over time, gravity, sun exposure, and the stresses of daily life take
their toll on our faces: deep creases appear beside the mouth, the jaw
line slackens, and folds and fat deposits appear on the neck. Facelifts
counteract these problems by removing fat and tightening skin and
muscles, giving your face a fresher, youthful look -- after surgery,
some patients appear as much as ten or 15 years younger.
The procedure can be combined with others (brow lift, eyelid surgery,
nose reshaping) for more dramatic results, or it can be restricted to
the neck (neck lift) if the patient's problems center there. Incisions
are made in inconspicuous places such as behind the hairline and in
natural folds of the face and ears, and scars fade to nearly invisible
in time. Results of a facelift do not last forever; you may want to have
another procedure in five or ten years. But in another sense, the
effects are permanent; years later, your face will continue to look
better than if you had never had the procedure.
The best candidate for a face lift is someone whose face and neck have
begun to sag, but whose skin still has some elasticity and
whose bone structure is strong and well-defined. Most patients are in
their forties to sixties, but facelifts can be done successfully on
people in their seventies or eighties as well.
Forehead Lift
(Brow Lift)
A forehead lift or "brow lift" is a procedure that restores a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above the eyes. The procedure corrects drooping brows and improves the horizontal lines and furrows that can make a person appear angry, sad or tired.
In a forehead lift, the muscles and tissues that cause the furrowing or drooping are removed or altered to smooth the forehead, raise the eyebrows and minimize frown lines.
Your surgeon may use the conventional surgical method, in which the incision is hidden just behind the hairline; or it may be performed with the use of an endoscope, a viewing instrument that allows the procedure to be performed with minimal incisions. Both techniques yield similar results -- smoother forehead skin and a more animated appearance.
Eyelid Surgery
(Blepharoplasty)
By removing excess fat, skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes.
It is typically a cosmetic procedure but can also improve vision by lifting droopy eyelids out of the patient's field of vision.
The procedure is usually performed in an office with local anesthesia and lasts 45 minutes to a few hours depending on how much work is done.
Eyelid surgery cannot be used to raise the eyebrows or reduce the appearance of wrinkles, crow's feet or dark circles under the eyes, but the procedure can be combined with others such as a facelift and Botox® treatments to achieve these results.
The best candidates are individuals who are healthy, psychologically stable and well motivated.
Some medical conditions may increase the risk of eyelid surgery such as thyroid disease, high blood pressure, and patients who do not make sufficient tears to keep their eyes well lubricated.
Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)
One of the most common plastic surgery procedures, nose surgery (rhinoplasty) is performed to reshape, reduce or augment a person's nose, remove a hump, narrow nostril width, change the angle between the nose and the mouth, or to correct injury, birth defects, or other problems that affect breathing. Rhinoplasty is usually an outpatient procedure performed under either local or general anesthesia and lasts one to two hours unless more extensive work needs to be done. Insurance may cover rhinoplasty
if it is done for reconstructive or medical reasons, but it is unlikely
that it would cover cosmetic purposes. more.
Botox®
Botox® is used for the treatment of frown lines, forehe ad furrows, "crow’s feet," lines.
and even
nasal muscles (to decrease nostril flaring). Botox® injections have proven to be a very popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure; We have found that the type of lines and wrinkles that respond to Botox® injections are those caused by the muscles—specifically those muscles that contract during facial expressions such as frowning or squinting.
Injection-related adverse reactions such as bruising, numbness, droopy eyelids may occur. Body may become immune.
The treatment takes about 30 minutes and the effect of a treatment can be seen within 1 - 2 weeks.
Restylane®
Hyaluronic acid is a substance that exists naturally in the body. Its most important function is to carry and bind water. Non-animal, stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA) does not contain animal protein and does not require a skin test prior to treatment.
Restylane® is designed for different purposes and effects, from reducing wrinkles and folds to enhancing facial contours and sculpting lips. The treatment often takes less than half an hour.
Injection-related adverse reactions such as swelling, redness and tenderness might occur. Other adverse reactions are very rare.
The result is immediate and can last from 6 - 12 months, depending on the patient and the area that is being treated.
Microdermabrasion
(Derma Peel™)
Microdermabrasion (Derma Peel™), is commonly referred to as "the lunch time peel" because the procedure takes only minutes to perform and most people can return to work immediately. Microdermabrasion is effective in reducing fine lines, "crow's feet," age spots and acne scars. It stimulates the production of skin cells and collagen.
The Derma Peel™ procedure uses highly controlled vacuum pressure to move microscopic abrasive crystals over the surface of the skin. This action causes little or no discomfort while it gently removes the outer layer of the skin. By repeating this process over the course of several weeks or months, the younger, softer skin moves to the surface, revealing significant textural and color changes.
Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that helps to flatten and shape the abdomen and waist by removing excess fat and skin an d tightening muscles. The best candidates are in good physical condition with pockets of fat or loose skin that haven't responded well to diet and exercise. Abdominoplasty can also be useful for women with stretched skin and muscles from pregnancy, although results from the procedure will diminish if they continue to bear children. The procedure takes approximately two to five hours and can be performed with local anesthesia with a sedative.
Recovery time ranges from two weeks to a few months, but with a balanced diet and regular exercise results are long-lasting. Abdominoplasty will likely leave a permanent scar stretching between the hips, although it should be low enough for even a bikini to conceal it.
Vein Treatment
Sclerotherapy…
Spider veins are those small yet unsightly clusters of red, blue or purple veins that most commonly appear on the thighs, calves and ankles. Spider veins are treated with sclerotherapy. In this rather simple procedure, veins are injected with a sclerosing solution, which causes them to collapse and fade from view. The procedure may also remedy the bothersome symptoms associated with spider veins, including aching, burning, swelling and night cramps.
The introduction of sclerosing agents are mild enough to be used in small veins has made sclerotherapy predictable and relatively painless.
Women of any age may be good candidates for sclerotherapy, but most fall in the 30-to-60 category. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you may be advised to postpone sclerotherapy treatment. In most cases, spider veins that surface during pregnancy will disappear on their own within three months after the baby is born. Also, because it's not known how sclerosing solutions may affect breast milk, nursing mothers are usually advised to wait until after they have stopped breastfeeding.
A typical sclerotherapy session is relatively quick, lasting only about 15 to 45 minutes.
Laser
Laser therapy is a proven treatment for treating unsightly broken and dilated vessels.
Lasers work by emitting a specialized light that is passed through the skin and preferentially absorbed by its target, the hemoglobin (the red portion of blood) in the unwanted vessels. The laser causes the vein to break up and disappear.
After your treatment you will be red for a few hours to a couple of days. You may have some swelling which can last up to 5 days.
Laser Hair
Removal
Laser hair removal is not for everyone. The absolute requirement is that one's hair must be darker than the surrounding skin. Dark hair absorbs more laser energy and is easier to treat. Coarse dark hair responds the best to laser treatment. Light hair is more difficult to treat. Blonde or red hair is very difficult to treat. Multiple treatment sessions are required, and results are variable.
The pigment in the hair follicle absorbs the laser light and converts the light to heat. The heat, in turn, damages the follicle and destroys its ability to re-grow. It is important to treat each follicle during the growth cycle for maximum hair reduction.
Any area, except adjacent to the eye, can be treated where there is excess hair. The most common areas requested are the face, upper lip, neck, chest, underarms, back, abdomen, bikini line, and legs. |
